Pet Screening for Rental Applications

Rentec Direct property management software is fully integrated with PetScreening allowing you to require applicants to complete screen their pets after they complete their online rental application.

Getting Started with PetScreening for Rentec Direct

The three quick steps to activate and use PetScreening are outlined below.

1. Find or Create a Unique Subdomain from PetScreening.com

In order to access the new PetScreening feature, you will need to create a free account on petscreening.com. Petscreening.com is free for landlords and property managers. 

When you sign up for a PetScreening account, you will be prompted to create a subdomain that will look something like this:

Example:  https://_____________.petscreening.com

Note: We recommend creating a unique subdomain that is in-line with your name, business name, or property name. (For example https://kcmiller.petscreening.com)

In order to link your PetScreening account with your Rentec Direct account, you will need to access your unique subdomain from petscreening.com. If you do not remember the unique subdomain you created from petscreening.com follow these directions: 

  1. Log in to your account on petscreening.com. 
  2. Click on Settings 
  3. Go to the Landing Page 
  4. Find the Unique Subdomain section, and make note of the information found here. In this example, our unique subdomain is yourcompany.petscreening.com.  Your subdomain will be different.

2. Connect your Rentec Direct account

In your Rentec Direct account:

  1. Click on Settings 
  2. Under Tools, click on Utilities
  3. Click on Pet Screening.
  4. Enter your unique subdomain from your petscreening.com account

  5. Check the box to Require all applicants to complete petscreening.com. If you only want applicants who specify that they have pets to be routed through petscreening.com, leave this unchecked
  6. Click on Save


3. Activate PetScreening on Your Rental Applications

Activate PetScreening in your Rentec Direct Account

In your Rentec Direct account:

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Under Program, click on Rental Applications
  3. Under Default Questions, set Ask primary applicant to list pets? to:
    1. YES, If you would like PetScreening required of only the primary applicant if they indicate they have a pet
    2. NO, If you would like all applicants to complete petscreening even if they don't have a pet 
  4. Petscreening.com will notify you of the screening results
