Pet Screening for Rental Applications

Rentec Direct is fully integrated with PetScreening (, a Pet Screening platform that empowers property managers and landlords to outsource their pet risk assessment and assistance animal validation processes.

With Rentec Direct’s PetScreening integration, you can automatically direct your rental applicants to your account so they can complete a pet screen once they are finished completing their online rental application.

Getting Started with PetScreening for Rentec Direct

There are three steps to activate and use PetScreening in your Rentec Direct account. Those three steps are outlined below. 

1. Find or Create a Unique Subdomain from

When you sign up for a PetScreening account, you will be prompted to create a subdomain that will look something like this:

In order to link your PetScreening account with your Rentec Direct account, you will need to access your unique subdomain from If you do not remember the unique subdomain you created from follow these directions: 

  1. Log in to your account on 
  2. Click on the Settings option.
  3. Go to the Landing Page tab.
  4. Find the Unique Subdomain section, and make note of the information found here. In this example, our unique subdomain is  Your subdomain will be different.

2. Connect your Rentec Direct account

In your Rentec Direct account:

  1. Click Settings from the main menu. 
  2. Click Utilities.
  3. Choose Pet Screening.
  4. Enter your unique subdomain from your account.
  5. Select the checkbox for Required if you want all of your applicants to be routed through the process.  If you only want applicants who specify that they have pets to be routed through, leave this unchecked.
  6. Click Save.

3. Activate PetScreening on Your Rental Applications

Activate PetScreening in your Rentec Direct Account

In your Rentec Direct account:

  1. Click Settings from the main menu. 
  2. Click on Rental Application Defaults.
  3. Under Optional Questions, set the option Ask primary applicant to list pets? to YES.

With this option enabled, if your applicant indicates that they have pets when filling out your rental application, they will automatically be forwarded to your custom application and will notify you of the results of their screen as soon as they complete it.
