Tenant Portals
Tenant Portals are available and easily enabled for all tenants (primary and co-tenants) added to Rentec Direct accounts.

Enabling Tenant Portals
Enabling the tenant portal and sending their login information is a straightforward process through Rentec Direct, ensuring a hassle-free experience for you and your tenants.
The following steps guide you through enabling a tenant portal.
In your Rentec Direct account:
- Click on Tenants
- Right-click on a tenant and select Edit Tenant
- Under Tenant Portal
Check the Enable Portal Access box
- Click on the paper/pencil icon to set up a Password
- Click on the circle arrow icon to auto-generate or manually enter a New Password
- Check the box to Email Tenant the password and login information (Once logged in, Tenants can update their email address and password)
- Click on Submit
- Click on Update Tenant to save the changes and send the Tenant Login Information
Important Note: If a tenant did not receive an auto-generated portal email, verify their email address and repeat the steps.
Example Auto-Generated Tenant Portal Login Message
The example below is the software's default message providing the tenant their username, temporary password, a link to log in, and links to download a mobile app.

Tenant Login
The Tenant Portal login message, illustrated above, provides everything tenants need to log in:
Username - The tenant's email address that is saved in your software
Password - Tenants will use the temporary password that was system-generated or entered when their portal was enabled, and can change the password when they log in.
Once the portal is enabled, tenants can easily and securely log in using any of the following options:
- Using the Access the Portal link from the Welcome Email
- Using their mobile device by downloading the Owner Connect mobile app by Rentec Direct from the Google Play or Apple App Store, Android or iOS
- Beyond your custom website, users can log in using this universal web address: https://rentecdirect.com/login (Tenants can bookmark (CTRL-D) this page to save time in the future)
Note: Tenants can also check the Keep me logged in box to continue logging in on their device without needing to enter their username and password. We only recommend this on secure devices that others do not have access to.
Features of the Tenant Portal
Tenant Portals include 6 pages:
- Summary -
- At a glance, financial (payment history, the next payment due, and current balance)
- Notices that will appear on all tenant portals
- The option to purchase or decline renters insurance (when enabled)

- Statement - Every charge and payment is posted individually by date in an informative ledger, as well as their deposit balance
- Repairs - When enabled, tenants can submit and view work orders (maintenance requests)
- Payments -
- With an active merchant account, tenants can schedule online ach, credit, or debit card payments.

- Files - Tenants access files you've shared with them
- Settings - Option for tenants to update their email address, select email notification preferences, and change login Passwords (updated email address will automatically update the owner info in your software)
Optional Tenant Portal Custom Features
The following tenant portal features are optional and can be updated in your Rentec Direct Program Defaults. When viewing the settings, place the cursor over the "?" for helpful details about the setting.
Portal Settings
- Allow tenants to see and create work orders
- Receive email when the tenant places a new work order
- Allow tenants to obtain renters' insurance in the Tenant Portal
- Send renters' insurance reminders
- Allow tenants to activate credit reporting in the Tenant Portal
- Number of days to use for balance-due messaging

Q) Besides paying rent, what other options do tenants have in their portal?
A) With tenant portal options selected in Program Defaults, tenants can:
- Submit work orders with photos
- Purchase renters insurance
- Enable credit reporting
- Access shared files
- View Portal Bulletins - Portal Bulletins allow you to have a message displayed when Tenants log into their portal, and allow landlords and property managers to stay in compliance with states that may require specific messaging in Tenant portals
Q) Can I log in as the tenant to get familiar with portals?
A) Yes, you can easily log in as the tenant
In your Rentec Direct account:
- Click on Tenants
- Right-click on the tenant and select Edit Tenant
- Under Tenant Portal, click on Log in as Tenant
Q) Can tenants change their personal information?
A) Tenants can change the following information:
- Email address
- Password
- Online Payment Information (for accounts with an active merchant account)
- Choose if they want to receive the auto notifications you've set for
- Reminders when payments are overdue
- Notification of new charges
- Notification when payments have posted
- Notifications when work orders have been completed
Q) If a tenant didn't receive an auto-generated email with login information, can I resend it?
A) Yes, you can resend the auto-generated email to a tenant by verifying their email is correct and following the steps on How to Enable Tenant Portals above
