Tenant Portals are easily enabled for all primary and co-tenants on Rentec Direct accounts.

Quick Start: Enable a Tenant Portal in Rentec Direct

In your Rentec Direct account:

  1. Click on Tenants
  2. Right-click on a tenant, then select Edit Tenant
  3. Under Tenant Portal, check Enable Portal Access, then enter a password or click on the circle arrow icon to auto-generate one
  4. Check the box to Email Tenant the password and login information
  5. Click on Submit, then Update Tenant


Tenant Login

The Tenant Portal login message provides:

  • A quick link to access their portal
  • Username (their email address)
  • Password

There's also a link for tenants to download the Resident Connect mobile app by Rentec Direct, available for both Android and iOS devices.

If tenants are unable to download the mobile app, they can log in through your Rentec Direct website or use this universal web address: https://rentecdirect.com/login. Bookmark (CTRL-D) this page to save time in the future.

Features of the Tenant Portal

Tenant Portals include 6 Subjects:

  • Summary -
    • At a glance, financial (payment history, the next payment due, and current balance)
    • Notices that will appear on all tenant portals
    • The option to purchase or decline renters insurance (when enabled)
    • Credit reporting option (when enabled)in the Tenant Portal. Click here to learn more about: Tenant Portal Settings
  • Statement - Every charge and payment is posted individually by date in an informative ledger, as well as their deposit balance
  • Repairs - When enabled, tenants can submit and view work orders (maintenance requests)
  • Payments -
    • With an active merchant account, tenants can make instant payments via ACH and schedule one-time or recurring payments via ACH, credit, or debit card.

      Pro Tip: For security purposes, if a tenant attempts to schedule a payment of $10,000 or more, a pop-up will appear advising them to verify the amount for accuracy.

    • With an active PayNearMe account, tenants can access the barcode used for making cash payments. Click here to learn more about: Electronic Payment Processing
  • Files - Tenants access files you've shared with them
  • Settings - Option for tenants to update their email address, select email notification preferences, and change login Passwords (updated email address will automatically update the owner info in your software)

Optional Tenant Portal Custom Features

The following tenant portal features are optional and can be updated in your Rentec Direct Program Defaults. When viewing the settings, hover over the "?" for helpful details about the setting.

Portal Settings

  • Allow tenants to see and create work orders
  • Receive email when the tenant places a new work order
  • Allow tenants to obtain renters' insurance in the Tenant Portal
  • Send renters' insurance reminders
  • Allow tenants to activate credit reporting in the Tenant Portal
  • Number of days to use for balance-due messaging

Log in as the Tenant

It's easy to become familiar with the Tenant Portal. Understanding what they can see can help when discussing questions tenants may have.


The following steps walk through logging in as a Tenant.

In your Rentec Direct account:

  1. Click on Tenants
  2. Right-click on a tenant and select Edit Tenant
  3. Under Tenant Portal, click on Log in as Tenant

    Tip: Right-click on "Log in as Tenant" to Open the Link in Incognito, allowing you to view the tenant portal in a separate window while remaining logged in to your account.


View Tenant Login History

Easily see whether a tenant has logged in to their Tenant Portal.

In your Rentec Direct account:

  1. Click on Tenants
  2. Click on a Tenant
  3. See the Last Login date displayed on the Tenant Card
  4. Click on the Last Login date to view even more login history



Frequently Asked Questions

Q) Besides paying rent, what other options do tenants have in their portal?

A) With tenant portal options selected in Program Defaults, tenants can:

  • Submit work orders with photos 
  • Purchase renters insurance
  • Enable credit reporting
  • Access shared files
  • View Portal Bulletins - Portal Bulletins allow you to have a message displayed when Tenants log into their portal, and allow landlords and property managers to stay in compliance with states that may require specific messaging in Tenant portals

Q) Can tenants change their personal information?

A) Tenants can change the following information:

  • Email address
  • Password
  • Online Payment Information (for accounts with an active merchant account)
  • Choose if they want to receive the auto notifications you've set for
    • Reminders when payments are overdue
    • Notification of new charges
    • Notification when payments have posted
    • Notifications when work orders have been completed

Q) If a tenant didn't receive an auto-generated email with login information, can I resend it?

A) Yes, you can resend the auto-generated email to a tenant by verifying their email is correct and following the steps on How to Enable Tenant Portals above
