Account and Password Security

Rentec Direct property management software contains sensitive information; therefore, account security is extremely important. We've taken steps to offer various techniques to help you keep your account secure, alert you to suspicious activity as soon as we become aware of it, and provide options to protect your account.

The following video will review some of the ways to protect your data and funds from potential threats.

Usernames and Passwords

The security of your username and password is your responsibility to keep safe and not share. For this reason, it is important that each person who accesses your Rentec Direct software be added as a manager or user and have their own user name and password. It's also important to always use a different password for your Rentec Direct account than you use for other programs and online services.

Notification of New or Suspicious Logins

When our system detects that your account is logged in from a new device at a new location, we may send you an email notifying you of the event. The email contains information about the computer and connection used to access your account. If the information does not appear to be related to your own device and location, it is recommended that you immediately change your password and enable two-factor authentication.

Username and Password Security Validation

When you log into your Rentec Direct account, we may verify that your credentials are secure.  If we identify that the same username and password have been used on other less secure, third-party platforms, we may ask you to change your password. We do this without sharing your credentials and only by comparing anonymized login data hashes using the k-Anonymity principle.

Manager & User Accounts

You should never share your password with others, including friends, relatives, and employees. Instead, give those who need access to your account a unique username and password to log in. User accounts are free to add, and you can add as many as you like. You can also define specific permissions for each user account so that each user or manager has access only to the data they need.

Disabling Manager & User Accounts

It's always a good idea to disable any logins for tenants, managers, and owners who no longer access your Rentec Direct account. When an account is disabled, it will automatically log out anyone who is logged in with that user's credentials.

Encrypted Communications

All information sent to and from Rentec Direct is encrypted during transit. This means that even if someone can see your internet traffic, they would not have access to any information transmitted between your computer(s) and our servers.
