Ordering and Viewing Tenant Screening Reports

Tenant screening reports are essential in tenant selection and protecting your investments. Rentec Direct property management software provides both Pro and PM clients with an extensive list of Tenant Screening Products.

Ordering Tenant Screening Reports

Order Screening reports as a bundle or a la carte automatically with online Rental Applications or manually directly through Rentec Direct software. 

In your Rentec Direct account: 

  1. Click on Reports
  2. Click on Screening Reports
  3. Click on + Order a Report  
  4. Enter the Subject Details (Complete all fields to ensure the most accurate results)
    Tip: Hover over the "?" to see details for that field
  5. Choose a Method to Use for Displaying Available Products

    • Nationwide Reports - If you want to skip right to the national reports, choose this option. You will be presented with our most popular report packages and reports immediately, including Nationwide Criminal, Credit Check, Eviction Check, and other popular nationwide reports.
    • Criminal Manual Search - By entering here, you can manually choose the state and county-level searches you wish to run on the tenant.  You will be prompted to choose a state, and then be able to select specific reports from the state and counties within the state manually.  This is where to verify a state or national report by backing it up with a county-level report.
    • Criminal Intellisearch - This is a FREE search that will scan through national databases to locate your subject's known places of residence and offer search suggestions based on their past residences.
  6. Click on Next 
  7. Select the reports you wish to order
    Note: The cost of each report will be displayed
  8. Click on Next to submit your order
  9. Click on the link to review your reports that may have processed immediately

Viewing Reports

Reports are easy to find and organized by most recently pulled.

In your Rentec Direct account:

  1. Click on Reports
  2. Click on Screening Reports
  3. Click on an applicant's name to view a list of ordered reports 
  4. Click on the specific report to review  

Tip: If permitted in your area, consider printing and storing reports in a secure location.

Note: An email will automatically be sent when reports are ready. Some reports are instant, returning in less than 60 seconds, while others, such as count-level criminal searches may take longer. If results haven't been received in 1-3 business days, click on "Reload From Source" to refresh the results.

Important Notes and FAQs
  • As of July 13, 2020, inquiries for Credit Report Cards and Full Credit Reports used for Tenant Screening are a soft hit and do not affect the applicant's credit score.
  • For security and privacy reasons, credit and criminal data will not be stored indefinitely.  Tenant screening reports are designed to help in the selection of a tenant and are for one-time use only.  Rentec Direct will archive these reports for a minimum of 60 days.
  • Rentec Direct will archive credit reports ordered through the system for up to 90 days, and criminal reports for up to 180 days.  After this time, the data may no longer be accessible via the Rentec Direct interface.
  • The cost of ordering reports may vary depending on which reports are selected. There are actually hundreds of reports available. When you are on the ordering page, select which reports you would like and the pricing for each report is displayed on the order screen next to each report.   • Fees for reports will be included in your monthly invoicing to the bank account or credit/debit card information on file for your Rentec Direct subscription. If the bank account is the preferred method of payment, a credit/debit card will be required as well for backup. Click  here for information on how to verify or Update Payment Information
  • Our upstream vendors automatically apply known compliance verification to the results, which helps remove any records that would not be compliant with your local laws and regulations. This verification is based on the Landlord or Property Manager's zip code, not the tenant's or property's zip code. Before using the information provided in the reports, be sure it complies with the laws and regulations that govern your location.
  • Inquiry history will show as the Rentec Direct account holder's name or company name. Reports pulled prior to April 2019 will show as being pulled by 'The LIG Group' as that is the name of the holding company for StarPoint Screening.
  • We do not control the information recorded in each database. Depending on the report you order, we return the information available in the database. We recommend verifying your local guidelines for using criminal reports in tenant screening, as they may vary.
  • The Public Records used in this system are made available as provided by the source. Rentec Direct, LLC, including its affiliates or vendors, does not warranty the accuracy or completeness of the information contained in the reports provided.
  • Rentec Direct software includes customizable templates for Denial Letters (Adverse Action Notices)
